Nicaragua

Many people forget, but in the 1970's Nicaragua had a larger economy than both Costa Rica and Panama.  The beautiful Central American country had a prosperous and bright future.  Then in 1972 a destructive earthquake leveled the capital city of Managua followed by the crippling revolution in 1979.  Overnight international investment withdrew and tourism dried up.  Fast forward to 2018 and Nicaragua has again become a fashionable tourist destination.  The lowest violent crime rate in Latin America and the emergence of a handful of five star resorts; most notable Mukul Resort and Spa, had Nicaragua back on track as one of the hottest vacation destinations.

2008 - 2018 was a beautiful ten year run for Nicaragua with tourism and exports nearly doubling and unemployment at its lowest since the early 70's.  It didn't take long for travelers to fall in love with the people of Nicaragua, their 'salt of the earth' values and a rich and vibrant culture full of laugh and dance.

In early May 2018, Nicaragua's Social Security System announced bankruptcy. Students lined the streets of the capital city of Managua in protest and were met with resistance. Conflict persisted over the following few months and Nicaragua once again found itself with a stagnant economy.

Today, Nicaragua is safe and orderly.  Tourists have began to return and on the surface all is back to normal. Fundamental ground root issues still exist but as a tourist, one would be hard pressed noticing a change.

Just a 25 minute flight from Liberia's International airport Casa Madera sits directly on the pristine shore of Playa Manzanillo.  With breathtaking vistas of the Pacific the beachfront Casa Madera offers ocean living at its finest. Offering all the amenities of Guacalito de la Isla, this luxury villa is a home away from home for beach enthusiasts, surfers, golfers and perfect for gatherings of friends and family.

At a generous 13,000 square feet, guests enjoy a main house with four ocean-view bedrooms, entertainment/living room, dining area and gourmet kitchen with breakfast bar; outdoor parlour and dining room, and private oceanfront pool. Just steps away through the courtyard is a casita with a fifth bedroom and en suite bath for additional guests. To ensure personal comfort, a Chef exclusive to the villa will be on hand to cater to guest requests.

Casa Madera is one of seven beach homes in Nicaragua's Premier Development - Guacalito de la Isla.  Located in the South West of Nicaragua and 10 minutes drive from Costa Esmeralda International Airport (a 20 minute flight from Liberia Costa Rica via Sansa Air).

Contrary to many reports, Nicaragua is extremely safe for tourists.  What has been a sad and difficult time for Nicaraguans and the country has been isolated to the capital of Managua and a few northern cities.  The unfortunate violence has been taken place has been between protestors and government troops. There has not been a single incident involving tourist nor traveler.  The south west of Nicaragua know as the Emerald Coast has been calm and orderly since the governmental issues began in early May 2018.

What's there to do?

Surf

The Emerald Coast of Nicaragua has become one of the top surf destinations in the world. Casa Madera is surrounded by 6 world class waves, most notably 'Manzanillo' just a short walk down the beach. Beginners will enjoy the beach break 'Windmills' literally directly out the back door. Whether you take our boat to explore the new breaks, get towed into something big on our jet ski or want to improve technique on the foam boards; Casa Madera is a surfers Mecca. Best time of year:  May - September.

Fish

Inshore Fishing is good year around in Nicaragua.  However when the winds come down from June - October is when the offshore fishing turns on.  Striped marlin, sailfish and dorado are all around during this time.  Our boat, equipment and professional captain are dialed in  to put you on the fish.

Boat

During your stay the boat is yours! The fun beach town of San Juan del Sur is 40 minutes south by boat where you can enjoy lunch and cocktails. Numerous white sand beaches provide the perfect escape for a private picnic. Tubing, wake boarding and romantic sunset cruises are a few of the many opportunities your boat will provide.

Golf

Guacalito's 18 championship golf course was designed by David Kidd, the same architect of Bandon Dunes and the Castle course at St. Andres. The friendly course meanders through the jungle before finishing on the ocean.  There is a driving range complete with practice sand, pitching and putting green. A second course located a few minutes away provides a more relaxed beach atmosphere.

Jetski

We always tell our guests riding a ski on the open ocean is a much different experience than that on a lake.  It's not for the faint of heart but for those with brave souls (and a signed waiver) there is no better way to explore the coastline.

Snorkeling and Spearfishing

For a look under the surface we have snorkel and spearing equipment available. One small secluded bay in particular within the development of Guacalito provides a good respite from the waves and wind.  Looking for a dive partner of want to learn the art of spearfishing? We can coordinate and experienced guide to show you the basics of the ancient art. Who knows, you may even come home with dinner.

Dining

Other than your in house chef, there are a multitude of dining options in the surrounding area. From local Nicaraguan cuisine, fresh daily seafood to sushi there are plenty of great restaurants under 30 minutes from Casa Madera. Let your concierge know what days/meals you plan on eating out and she dial you in.

Tres Ciebas Beach Club

During your stay at Casa Madera you will have access to the Beach Club at Guacalito. Just a short stroll down the beach the club offers a complete restaurant and bar, pizza oven, pool, day care and beach cabanas.

Casa del Golf

Casa Del Golf is located in the La Reserva neighborhood of Guacalito de la Isla. This magnificent residence offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Manzanillo Bay. A tropical paradise for those in search of the exotic and undiscovered. The 5,012 square foot villa offers 4 bedrooms, 5 baths and sleeps up to 8 people.

The exterior offers a large infinity pool and deck along with a pool side palapa complete with a flat screen TV, bar, and BBQ. The house is equipped with it´s own Service Area and Service Kitchen to ensure your catered dining doesn't disturb your stay. The four bedrooms are located in 3 fully separate Villas and provide complete privacy from one another. The expansive Main Room includes a Luxury Kitchen, Dining Area and Media Center.

Sitting squarely above hole number 3 on the Guacalito Golf Course, DMK Villa offers its own pitching area for those who hope to improve their short game.

David McLay Kidd's Signature Oceanfront 18-hole Course is a challenge to players of all skill levels, Guacalito Golf Course seamlessly melds natural terrain while preserving the breathtaking environment that makes Nicaragua's Emerald Coast special. Beautiful hardwood bridges made with fallen timber grace many holes. A specially treated-water irrigation system maintains the resort's commitment to sustainability. On the 18th hole, an unconventional par-3, was designed specifically to save mature trees instead of removing them.

The north west of Costa Rica is renowned for its fishing and we have the perfect setup to put you on the fish. Golf

While staying at Casa Caiman you have access to the Private Four Seasons’ Arnold Palmer Championship Golf Course. Arguably the finest Course in Central America, it will take you meandering through the hills and sea cliffs that make up the Papagayo Peninsula. Because of the exclusive nature of this course you won’t spend much time waiting for the group in front of you. Early morning is the best time to play to avoid the afternoon heat and evening glare.

$180 low season pp.(April – November) $220 high season pp. (December – March). $70 rental clubs. We keep a set of two of Men’s and a set of Women’s clubs at Casa Caiman, feel free to use them!

Jetski

Rent up to 12 Wave Runners and you can have the whole family in on the fun.  Ask your concierge for details.

Snorkeling and Spearfishing

Located just south of Lake Nicaragua, Guanacaste provides a respite from the trade winds that rip across southern Nicaragua from January to May. This calm equates to comparatively clear water and great spearing conditions. The geographically diverse coastline with bays and islands also helps protect dive sites from swell and strong currents. All this equates to great spearing! Northern Costa Rica has some of the best Pargo diving in the world. Ask your captain to take you to some of our secret spots. Always dive with a buddie and keep eyes on the boat. Spear guns, equipment and wetsuits are included in your stay. Signed waiver required.

Dining

Other than your in house chef, there are a handful of fine dining options on Peninsula Papagayo.  During your stay at Casa Caiman you will have access to the Four Seasons, Beach Club, Andaz, Marina and Pro Shop; each of which have luxury dining experiences.

Playa Prieta Beach Club

During your stay at Casa Caiman you and your family will have access to the Playa Prieta beach club. The club includes a two story gym, spa, restaurant, bar and grill. The large beach front pool overlooks the breathtaking Prieta beach.

Tubing, Wakeboard, Wakesurf, Foilboard

Papagayo Bay is a great place to spend some time on the boat. Ever wonder what it feels like to fly? Give the hydro foil a try! Tubes and a banana boat are great for kids and families. Lather on the sunscreen, buckle up your life jackets and enjoy some fun under the sun

Private Beach Picnic

There are a handful of secluded enclaves to the north that your captain can bring you to by boat. Pack a basket, bring acooler and set up shop under some shade. The early evening 3pm –5pm is the best time to be out. Explore a sea cave while your at it and enjoy a sunset on the ride home

Helicopter Tours

An incredible way to explore Costa Rica without spending hours in the car. Safe and reliable outfitters exist just beyond Liberia Airport. They will take you above jungle rivers looking for sunbathing crocs, over the peaks of active volcanos and down Costa Rica’s rugged coat before returning to a breathtaking sunset over the vast Pacific. If it’s in the budget this is hard to beat.

Seaplane Tours

Another incredible experience is exploring the coast line by seaplane. Landing a plane in the ocean seems feels like you are stuck in time. These slow flyers take you just 500 feet above beaches and coves giving an incredible perspective of the peninsula and beyond.Sea Planes Costa Rica

Rafting

During the ‘rainy season’ –June through October, Costa Rica’s lush mountains feed into some sporty rivers made perfect for rafting. End the day by enjoying a natural waterfall pool. There are a few river options to float. Our recommendation is an outfit out of Canas, about 1 hour 30 minutesaway.

Rain Forest Waterfall Hike

Costa Rica has 28 National Parks made up of lush virgin rain forests. Rincon de la Vieja National Park is located just East of Libera. About a 1 hour 30 minute drive from Casa Caiman, the park offers: Breathtaking Hikes, An active Volcano, Boiling Mud, Hot Springs and Waterfalls. Hikes range from 30 minutes to over 2 hours.

Zipline

With so many canopy tours to choose from, you might as well do it right. Diamante Eco Adventure Park is a 45 minutedrive on the way to Playa Coco. Large expansive zip lines will get the adrenaline going as you race above the jungle canopy. The park also is home to many exotic animals: Jaguars, Mountain Lions, Crocodiles, Monkeys, Sloths and Birds are some of the spectacular species you will see.

Birdwatching

Costa Rica has 12 eco-systems and is home to 921 species of birds! Believe it or not, the best place to see the birds in Guanacaste is via the Papagayo Golf Course! The Papagayo Adventure Club offers daily tours with a knowledgeable tour guide. See attached booklet. The wildlife center is located next to the driving range and practice facilities.

Horseback Riding

There are also plenty of options to get off trail via horseback. A beautiful outfit that explores rain forest and jungle is an hour and a half away at Playa Conchal. Great for kids and horse lovers. Best early morning or evening to escape the heat. Wear pants and get after it partner!

ATV Excursions

If horseback isn’t your cup of tea give the old iron horse a go. Tico Tours out of Playa Hermosa will set you up with as many ATV’s as you need. You will explore rain forests, beaches, rivers and more.

Volcano Adventures

Costa Rica has 67 volcanos, of which 6 are active. Arenal is far and away the most famous Volcano in Costa Rica. Here you could spend a week exploring this bio-diverse metropolis. Some activities we recommend are waterfall repels, night time nature tour and the cloud forest coffee tour.

Visit Playa Coco

Located just across the Papagayo Peninsula and visable on the left as you drive into Papagayo is Playa Coca. This is the closet beach town to Casa Caiman. There are plenty of shops and restaurants to visit if you feel the itch to get off the peninsula. A couple of tried and true dining options are: Zi Lounge and CocoNutz. About a 45 minute drive but you can also take the boat (25 minutes), the captain will drop you off at the beach (keep your phones dry!).

Visit Playa Tamorindo

Far and away largest beach town in Guanacaste. Tamorindo is home to a younger crowd and the nights are filled with dance and drink. A great beginners surfbreak is located at the river mouth, just be sure to ask about any resident crocodiles (no joke). Sharky’s is Costa Rica’s first and only true sports bar. If you need to watch a game, they will have it.

Northern California couldn't feel further from the hustle and bustle of 'So-Cal'. Not quite Oregon, yet a little hardier than Napa; Boonville and the Anderson valley are where new world California meets the old.  Miles of world renown wineries give way to majestic redwood groves before opening up to the rugged Pacific coastline.  From San Fransisco, High Rock Ranch sits approximately 100 miles north as the crow flies.  It's one of those places you have to visit during your lifetime.

Built in 2005, High Rock Ranch encompass over 350 Acres of Oak trees and golden California hills. This epic of a family style ranch boasts a 6 bedroom main house, 2 bedroom guest house and pool house.  Just over 2 hours North of San Fransisco, High Rock Ranch is the ultimate family retreat.

Miles of single track running and biking trails explore the property. The two two lakes are ideal for fishing and paddle boarding.  A 2 acre lawn frames the tennis court and a semi-olympic pool. Numerous rope swings and zip lines are sure to keep the kids entertained while adults can enjoy the 13 acres of Syrah and Pinot and all they yield.

WHO ARE WE?

Viridian Experience is a new method to Luxury Travel.  Our mission is clear, to offer our guests the most memorable vacations of their lives, period. These are lofty expectations that we do not take lightly.

The reason we set the bar so high is two fold.  One, unlike 99% of Luxury Travel industry, we own our properties outright.  We built each of our luxury villas from the ground up in an attempt to best capture each individual destination.

In our view, this planet is far too complex to experience from a thousand foot cruise liner or a multinational hotel chain. Providing our guests with world class residences is one thing, but opening the doors to the destination itself is what makes Viridian different.

Each of our unique villas are staffed with a personal concierge. This is not a sit in the lobby and ding the bell concierge. At Viridian our teams live and breath these destinations. We pride ourselves in providing extremely unique and tailored experiences to each one of our guests.  This means whether you want to paddle board down a meandering jungle river,  play 18 holes of the finest Costa Rican golf in the morning and surf Nicaragua's most famous point break in the afternoon, or just want to spend time with love ones in some of the most breathtaking corners of our planet.. Give our team at Viridian Experience a chance to create something memorable for you and yours.
