Is Nicaragua dangerous for tourists? Contrary to many reports, as of October 2018 Nicaragua is extremely safe for tourists. What has been a sad and difficult time for nicaraguans and the country has been isolated to the capital of Managua and a few northern cities. The issues have taken place between protestors and government troops; there has not been a single incident involving a tourist or traveler. The Southwest of Nicaragua, known as the emerald coast, has been calm and orderly throughout the duration of the 2018 protests.

What is the recommended trip duration? Our recommended itinerary involves 3 to 4 days in casa caiman followed by 3 to 4 days in case Madera; however, everyone has different passions and experiences they want to explore during their stay, so lengths and itineraries will vary.

What activities do you recommend for casa caiman? Adjacent to Casa is one of the nicest golf courses in Costa Rica, the Arnold palmer signature golf course. The marina at Papagayo is the only marina for many miles. World class fisherman run fishing charters out of Papagayo and access some of the best sport fishing grounds in the region. Surf charters are also available from Papagayo to some of the most famous breaks in Central America. Clay tennis courts and single track mountain biking trails are also very popular.

What activities do you recommend at Casa Madera? Not unlike casa caiman, Casa Madera has the best golf, surf and fishing in its respective country. For less than you think, we will anchor our twin engine motor cat in front of Casa Madera allowing you and your family to explore the emerald coast by boat and catch some fish along the way; the boat rentals include a captain and fishing gear. Jungle hikes/runs beneath howler monkeys are another guest favorite.

I’m not an expert surfer but am interested in learning, is this possible? Both casa caiman and Casa Madera offer beginner up to expert waves. The beach break in front of Casa Madera called windmills is an excellent beginners wave. Surf instructors of all levels are available to come to the house and the plethora of boards at Casa Madera are yours to enjoy.

What is the weather like? In Central America November through April are considered the dry months while may through October are the wet months. In southwest Nicaragua the dry months can get windy due to the trade winds building across lake Nicaragua; however, other than October, the wet season is usually quite mild at Casa Madera. In contrast casa caiman doesn’t get the dry season winds quite like Casa Madera while the wet seasons can get some more moisture. Golf is great year-round at both locations. Surf is best march through September, but quality beginner waves are present throughout the year. Fishing conditions are ideal may through November when the wind is mild and currents bring the blue water closer to shore.

How many guests per house? Both Casa Madera and casa caiman have 5 bedrooms and staff quarters. We limit 12 people to a house at a time. Additional guests can be added at a cost.

Unprecedented luxury by no means should sacrifice the spirit of adventure.
